Mission Statement

Westex Housing Initiative is organized exclusively for charitable and educational purposes under Section 501(c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code. Our mission is to develop, support, and expand access to safe, high-quality, and affordable housing in underserved areas of West Texas and other state locations, with a focus on working families, veterans, and transitional populations.

The Challenge We're Addressing

Energy Sector Growth Without Housing Infrastructure

The rapid expansion of wind, solar, and traditional energy sectors has created thousands of jobs, but housing development hasn’t kept pace. Workers face impossible choices: long commutes, substandard temporary housing, or family separation.

Decades of Declining Population & Aging Housing Stock

Rural communities experienced population decline over decades, leaving behind aging, deteriorating housing that doesn’t meet modern standards or family needs. The existing inventory is insufficient in both quantity and quality.

Affordability Crisis for Working Families

Even when housing exists, it’s often unaffordable for working families earning moderate incomes. Families spend 40-50% or more of their income on housing, leaving little for healthcare, education, or savings.

Economic Ripple Effects

Housing shortages impact every aspect of community life: schools lose enrollment, businesses struggle to find employees, healthcare facilities can’t recruit staff, and young families leave for opportunities elsewhere.
