Primary Project: McCamey, Texas

Westex Housing Initiative is dedicated to supporting the hardworking individuals in the energy sector by offering affordable housing solutions. Our mission is to create safe, sustainable, and cost-effective living environments for both temporary and permanent energy workers and their families. By utilizing innovative construction methods, such as repurposed shipping containers, we aim to address the housing needs of those powering our future.

Small Town Life - Big Energy Jobs

McCamey (pop. ~1,800) is a small West Texas town known as the “Wind Capital of Texas.” Anchored by energy industries—wind, solar, and oil—this tight-knit community offers essential amenities including local grocery stores, gas stations, restaurants, and a medical clinic. With its authentic small-town charm and hardworking spirit, McCamey provides a welcoming home base for energy workers and families seeking affordable living in the heart of West Texas.

temporary Energy Workers Seeking Housing

Thousands of temporary energy workers flock to McCamey for wind, solar, and oil projects, but face a critical housing shortage. With virtually no available rentals and workers commuting 60+ miles daily, many live in overcrowded motels or substandard trailers. These hardworking professionals need affordable, comfortable housing near job sites—clean, safe accommodations that let them rest, save money, and focus on the demanding work that powers Texas communities

Shipping Container Housing Vision

Westex Housing Initiative envisions transforming shipping containers into modern, affordable homes for McCamey’s energy workforce. These planned HUD-compliant units will feature energy-efficient insulation, solar power, and contemporary interiors—designed to deliver 30-50% utility savings. Rapidly deployable and double-stackable, our envisioned container neighborhoods will maximize land use while providing comfortable, sustainable living spaces. It’s innovative housing designed to be cost-effective, eco-friendly, and built for the hardworking professionals powering Texas energy.
